Creditors

Information on Creditors

Phone calls from creditors can be very annoying and embarrassing
especially at work. Collection calls may seem threatening. The Fair
Debt Collection Practices Act
restricts creditors. This Federal Law
forces a collector to immediately stop communication with you after you
retain an attorney. A collector now has to call the retained attorney's
office. This gives you time to decide what to do. Only communication
from the creditor stops. Collection can continue.

If you need to immediately stop harassing phone calls, you may
retain my legal services for $100. You can then refer all calls to my
office. This will give you less stressful time to meet with me and
decide what to do.

If you eventually file a bankruptcy petition, an order from the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court prohibits all further contact from your creditors as
well as all collection activity (referred to as the automatic stay).
This includes billing, phone calls, and lawsuits.
